Filmed in our workshop, this short video shows how our melamine polish applied to a sample piece of solid mahogany is highly resistant to extreme temperatures. This heat resistant polish is available in a variety of sheen levels from dead matt to high gloss. Gilboy's have been applying this incredibly durable finish to dining tables and general furniture for many years. Particularly beneficial and cost effective for hotels, yacht interiors, dining tables, coffee tables and restaurants. (Interior use only) Simon first used this melamine finish as an apprentice in the mid 1980’s. Staverton Joinery had the contract to build very high quality office furniture to Government offices which included the Houses of Parliament. This melamine lacquer is the same finish we apply today at Gilboy's for furniture which requires a very high quality durable finish with the added bonus of amazing heat resistance and easy maintenance. It is available in a variety of sheens, and serves as an ideal new finish for an old dining table or coffee table that will last for years.
This finish is not applied to antiques Examples where we have applied a melamine finish:
A treat for teak This teak dining table came to us severely water damaged and suffering years of fading in the sun. The existing finish was stripped by hand back to bare wood and prepared with oxalic acid, allowing the natural colour of the teak to shine through. The table was then finished with a satin heat-resistant melamine lacquer.
A storm on dry land Gilboy’s were asked to carry out the finishing touches to this 40ft sailing yacht after it was hit by storm-force wind and toppled off its cradle on dry land. |
